1 Introductions, apologies and substitutions
1.1 Apologies were received from David Rees AM and Byron Davies AM. There were no substitutions.
2 Inquiry into EU funding opportunities 2014-2020 (session 8) (09.00-09.30)
2.1. The Committee took evidence from Ian Davies, Route Manager – Irish Sea South, Stena Line Limited; Alec Don, Chief Executive and Mark Andrews, Corporate Affairs Director, both representing Port of Milford Haven and Callum Couper, Port Manager, Associated British Ports South Wales.
3 Inquiry into EU funding opportunities 2014-2020 (session 9) (09.30-10.00)
3.1. The Committee took evidence from Dr Andrew Potter, Cardiff Business School, Cardiff University and Martin Evans, previous chair of the Chartered Institute of Logistics and Transport Cymru Wales and Board member of CILT.
4 Inquiry into EU funding opportunities 2014-2020 (session 10) (10.10-10.50)
4.1 The Committee took evidence from Ceri Jones, Department of Research and Innovation, Swansea University and Wyn Prichard, Wales Director, Construction Industry Training Board.
5 Transport Planning and Funding (11.00-12.00)
5.1 The Committee took evidence from Minister for Economy, Science and Transport, Welsh Government. The Minister was supported by James Price, Director General, Economy, Science and Transport, Welsh Government and Claire Bennett, Deputy Director Transport Policy, planning and Partnerships
5.2 The Minister for Economy, Science and Transport agreed to:
- Share the recommendations of the Bus Advisory Group;
- Consider whether the Community Transport Association should be involved in the Bus Advisory Group;
- Provide a note on the Welsh Government approval process for the decision on concessionary fares and how advice was provided to the Minister;
- Provide a note on how Welsh demographic projections were considered in setting concessionary fares funding levels over the next three years given funding reductions in each year of the agreement;
- Provide an update on the development of plans for young persons’ concessionary travel;
- Provide a note on the approach to financing south Wales electrification set out in the Welsh Government’s final outline business case for Valleys electrification, including section 6 of the May 2012 Outline Business Case, and if possible including the figures redacted from the business case;
- Provide a note on discussions regarding north Wales electrification and wider related transport issues;
- Provide an update on dualling work to connect the North Wales Mainline to Liverpool and Manchester.
